Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a name created by the originators of NLP, Richard Bandler and John Grinder. (One was a mathematician and one was a linguist, hence the complex-sounding name.) NLP has been called a user’s manual for the human brain. NLP has been found to be a way of thinking about human behavior that can facilitate powerful change. It works to help you overcome life problems and generate positive desired changes in a very simple and powerful way in a very short time. Early NLP work focused on how the most respected therapists in their fields helped clients to make powerful changes in their lives. Their methods varied widely and it was not possible to cook-book how they worked. The genius of NLP is that it looked at the structure of what they were doing, rather than the content, to discover the underlying key ingredients that sparked creative transformations. NLP has changed and evolved in the 30+ years since its inception. There are many ways to use this technology of mind, from helping to train salespeople to be more persuasive, to working with a client to discover his or her life mission and spiritual purpose. NLP is a great adjunct therapy for overcoming fears, phobias, even allergies (which NLP defines as phobias of the immune system!). NLP with Hypnosis, which is a related methodology, are powerful aids in habit control and goal setting and getting. A few NLP PresuppositionsHere are a few of the NLP Presuppositions. These are statements that NLP does not declare to be "true", but it does propose that if you act "as-if" they are true, your life is highly likely to change for the better! Try them on and see how they feel. The map is not the
territory. There is no such thing
as failure, only feedback. When what you are doing
isn’t working, do something else. Choice is better than no
choice. |
